Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.
An important representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
